Recruiting Red Flag Questions/Situations

  1. Get verification on why a candidate has left previous positions. Purse any questionable answers.
  2. Look at dates of employment. If they were on temporary/permanent positions and the dates indicate an odd amount of time, pursue this. It could be that they had a short contract, or they could have left a contract.
  3. If a candidate is available immediately, find out why. Do they not plan ahead? Were they just laid-off/fired?
  4. If a candidate says that they don’t need to give notice, find out why. If they up-and-leave an assignment to work for us, they will do the same to us.
  5. Get a minimum of 1 checked reference in a supervisory role. It always raises a red flag when a candidate is unable to come up with any supervisory references.
